Ludhiana, July 18

The police have arrested Jagdamba Prasad, a resident of Bindra Colony and the owner of a grocery store in Nanak Nagar, near Old Sabzi Mandi, here, for allegedly selling fake common salt under the brand name of Tata Salt. In a raid conducted at the shop of the accused, 622 kg of duplicate Tata Salt was seized by the police. In this regard, Phul Chand, a resident of Bhagat Singh Nagar, Barwala Road, in Dera Bassi had lodged a complaint with the police on behalf of Tata Consumer Products Limited, manufacturers of Tata Salt. The accused has been booked under Sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act.

Hari Singh, along with his unknown accomplices, has been booked by the police under Sections 380 and 420 of the IPC for allegedly stealing three cheques from a drop box of the Sector 32-A branch of HDFC Bank and fraudulently getting the same credited to his bank account. The police took action after a complaint was lodged by Hitesh Rawal, branch manager of the bank and a resident of Sector 21, Samrala Road, here.

The police have also booked Ranjit Singh of Jalal Usman in Amritsar district, under Section 420 of the IPC on the complaint of Suba Singh, a resident of Satjot Nagar, here. The complainant said he had struck a deal with the accused to purchase a plot measuring 211 sq yards in Threeke village for Rs 42 lakh. He had failed to get the sale deed of the plot registered even after receiving the payment for the same, he said.
