Gurdwara Singh Sabha donates Rs 3.75L for shed at govt school

Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Doraha, is observing the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur with various events and initiatives. The management committee, led by president Inder Singh and general secretary Jagjiwan Pal Singh Gill, is ensuring the active participation of the community in these events.

The Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has contributed Rs 3.75 lakh for building a multi-purpose shed at a school. “This shed will serve as a versatile space for students. They will get a covered area to play, especially during the scorching summer. Events can also be hosted here,” shared Inder.

The committee has also donated Rs 1 lakh to the Guru Angad Dev University of Veterinary Sciences, Ludhiana, to help provide medicine to animals. It has also extended support to the flood victims by donating 100 sacks of cement to aid in rebuilding their homes. Rs 8 lakh is being spent on the renovation of the building of the gurdwara on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary.

Gurdwara committee general secretary Jagjiwan Pal Singh Gill has announced a scholarship worth Rs 30,000 per annum from his own pocket for meritorious and deserving students of Government Senior Secondary School, Doraha. “The scholarship will be divided equally among students on the basis of merit as well as means. Special attention shall be given to girl students, who sometimes fail to continue with their studies given the pressure of home and society,” added the general secretary.

On the occasion of the 350th martyrdom anniversary celebrations, the schools and institutions of the town are ensuring their active participation from to November 13 to 15. “A special turban-tying competition is being organised for the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Doraha. Also, kirtan darbar, kavi darbar and dhadi darbar would especially be held,” said general secretary of the management committee Jagjeevan Pal Singhal.

Management committee members, including Jogeshwar Singh Mangat, Harjiwan Pal Singh Gill, Rajinder Singh Khalsa, Bhupinder Oberoi, Rajveer Singh Rubal, Harvinder Singh Ghuman, Gurdeep Singh and Daljit Singh are working collectively to make the initiative a success.
