Ludhiana, August 23

The odd-even formula of the Ludhiana Administration has put the owner of a hair and beauty salon in a fix. The owner of shop number 7 at Red Cross Bhawan, Mall Road, says he would have almost no business as people avoid visiting hair salon on Tuesday and Thursday, the two days when he can open his shop under the odd-even formula. He has made a representation to the administration and the Ludhiana police.

According to the new directions of the administration, from Monday onwards, only 50 per cent non-essential shops will open in any particular area. Shops with even serial numbers can open on even dates and those having odd numbers can open on odd dates. The shops that do not have serial numbers can paint temporary ones with the help of market associations.

The salon owner, Abhay Girdhar, said: “My shop number is 7. I will be allowed to open the salon on odd dates, i.e., 25th and 27th of August. These dates fall on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. People generally prefer not going to hair salons on these two days. Thus, I will be left with almost no business.

“Our sector is already facing 75% business loss due to Covid,” said Abhay. He said the administration should adjust the odd-even formula as per the business days of hair salons.
