A head constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) posted here lost his life to Covid today. The 49-year-old victim hailed from the Karol Bagh area of Jalandhar. Besides, two persons, who had returned from Maharashtra, tested positive.

The RPF head constable tested positive for Covid on May 18. He came in contact with the infected RPF personnel brought here from Delhi.

“He was under treatment at Mother and Child Hospital, Vardhman, and was later shifted to Christian Medical College and Hospital after his condition deteriorated on May 22,” said Dr Chetna, from Ludhiana Railway Hospital.

He had been on ventilator since May 26. He was suffering from bilateral pneumonia and lung sepsis, and was also a borderline patient of hypertension. Today, he had a cardiac arrest and breathed his last, said Dr Rajesh Bagga, Civil Surgeon.

Fiftyseven personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have tested positive for Covid in Ludhiana to date. Of them, 48 belong to Delhi and nine to Ludhiana.

Meanwhile, a man and a woman, who had come back from Maharashtra, have tested positive. The 58-year-old woman returned from Chandrapur in Maharashtra by train on May 24. She belongs to Jagraon, Mallah village, in Ludhiana district. She is at present admitted to the Covid centre at Meritorious School and is likely to be shifted to Civil Hospital, Jagraon.

The other patient, a resident of Rishi Nagar, Ludhiana, is a manager at a private company in Mumbai. He came back from Mumbai by plane and his sample was taken in Chandigarh. He has been admitted to the Fortis hospital, Ludhiana.

A 72-year-old woman from Amritsar, who came to the DMCH for check-up, has also tested positive. She has multiple health conditions, including diabetes and hypertension. She has been admitted to the DMCH.

Five more discharged

Meanwhile, five more patients were discharged from hospitals in the district. Three persons were discharged from the Mother and Child Hospital, near Vardhman Mill, and one each from the Civil Hospital and the DMCH. While four persons are residents of Haibowal, Miller Ganj, Sherpur and Lalton, the fifth one is an RPF jawan and hails from Daya Basti in Delhi.
