LUDHIANA: A team of the Health Department has collected 23 samples of milk, its products and sweets.

A team of the Health Department has collected 23 samples of milk, its products and sweets.

On Tuesday, the team intercepted a vehicle coming from Moga early in the morning and took two samples of curd and milk. At a dairy in Jodhan, the team collected two samples of milk and cheese. From Mullanpur tehsil, officials collected samples of soya at a manufacturing unit and those of biscuits from a bakery. Samples of ghee were also collected from a manufacturer.

Samples of sweets such as ‘chana burfi’ and mango sandwich were collected from a factory. The team also collected a sample of cheese from a sweets shop in Moti Nagar.

On Wednesday, the department intercepted a milk vendor near Dandi Swami and collected two samples of milk. A sample was also collected from a dairy situated in Threekay village.

The team also inspected a food supplement manufacturing plant and took two samples of glucose powder. At Shivpuri, a ‘namkeen’ manufacturing factory was inspected and three samples of ‘mathi’, ‘bhujia’ and potato chips were collected.

The team also checked the court complex and took three samples of ‘dal’, ‘bread pakora’ and sandwich.

All samples have been sent for testing.

The department has appealed to all sweets manufacturing units to use colours in a limited quantity and of good quality. They have been asked to maintain hygiene and sanitary conditions at their units.
