The Ludhiana police have pulled up their socks to teach a lesson to hooligans on Holi by registering FIRs against them. The staff at the police station level have been directed to keep tabs on such elements and register immediate FIRs on noticing hooliganism or noisy troublemakers.

Additional DCP (Headquarters) and Security Deepak Pareek said the police stations heads and special PCR teams would conduct round-the-clock patrolling in the city to keep tabs on hooligans and to prevent street brawls.

“There are clear directions to the policemen on patrol duty and the police station staff to register immediate FIRs against hooligans and any other person found creating law and order problems during the Holi celebrations. An FIR can be registered under Section 188 and 160, IPC, or other IPC sections depending upon the kind of violation or crime,” Pareek told The Tribune.

Special patrolling and deployment will be made outside prominent religious places where the Holi celebrations are to be organised.

Pareek also said tipplers found consuming liquor in the open might also face action.

Sources said traffic police were also set to take action against Holi revelers violating traffic rules as special nakas were being set up to challan and impound hooligans’ vehicles.
