Hosts GNPS prevail over Blossoms in football c’ship

LUDHIANA: Hosts Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS), Sarabha Nagar, in a nail-biter overpowered Blossoms Convent School, Jagraon, 1-0 in the boys’ section on the second and penultimate day of the Ludhiana Sahodaya School Complex Football Tournament on Thursday.

Hosts Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS), Sarabha Nagar, in a nail-biter overpowered Blossoms Convent School, Jagraon, 1-0 in the boys’ section on the second and penultimate day of the Ludhiana Sahodaya School Complex Football Tournament on Thursday.

Both the teams played well but missed scoring chances that came their way. However, hosts GNPS, eventually managed to clinch the cliff-hanger. The goal came through Jasmandeep Singh.

In another match (boys’ group), Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, quelled strong resistance from Anand Isher Senior Secondary School, Chhapar, before emerging winners by 2-0. Kabir Singh and Aditya accounted for one goal each to steer their side to register victory.

In the third match, Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Kitchlu Nagar, got the better of Nankana Sahib Public School, Kila Raipur, 3-0. Shivam, Karan and Shubham scored for the winning side.

The match played between Delhi Public School and Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill, turned out to be a keenly contested affair in which the former came out triumphant 4-3.

In the girls’ section, Anand Isher Senior Secondary School, Chhapar, and Jesus Sacred Heart School, South City, won their respective matches.

In the first encounter, Gurleen Kaur struck thrice to enable Anand Isher Senior Secondary School to blank Blossoms Convent School, Jagraon, 3-0. Jesus Sacred Heart School pipped Nanakna Sahib Public School, Gill, 1-0. The lone scorer was Simranjot Kaur who stitched up the match for her side.

Jaspal Singh, senior football coach with the Punjab Sports Department and Ram Lubhaya, soccer player from the Indian Railways were the guests of honour today. They motivated the students to actively participate in sports for an overall development.

The guests appreciated the school authorities for conducting the event in a coordinated manner.
