Ludhiana, July 5
Resentment was seen among residents of Rajguru Nagar after the annual general body meeting (AGM) of the Park Central Welfare Society, HIG Flats, Rajguru Nagar, was called today.
Residents were opposing the meeting which the society has scheduled amid the threat of the pandemic as holding large gatherings was not allowed as per the guidelines.
The term of the last governing body expired on May 13. Though many members were requesting to continue with the same team for a few more months due to the ongoing situation, still the executive committee called for the meeting today.
A resident of the HIG Flats, Rajguru, Nagar, said many people had requested to continue with the same team but the executive committee had dissolved the team and today, a meeting was called to elect the new team.
“We had also requested to conduct the meeting online but nobody listened to our suggestions, instead the meeting was called. Many members are not attending the meeting and the new team will be decided among present only,” she said.
Another member said they fail to understand the urgency to hold the meeting amid such a crisis. “They have not taken any permission and gathering of so many people is not advisable, especially when cases are shooting up in Ludhiana.”
Charanjit Singh, who is also reportedly contesting for the post of president, said they had sought permission for holding the meeting.
“Social distancing will be maintained and people have been asked to wear masks. I am also a member and I have not called the meeting. I am only a member,” he said.
He, however, denied about fighting for any post.
Despite repeated attempts, working secretary Pankaj Garg was not contacted over phone.
One of the agendas of the meeting in the letter was to elect the new governing body.
