Following directions from the Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and GLADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar, GLADA’s regulatory wing on Wednesday demolished an unauthorised colony in Sahnewal. The developers failed to stop illegal constructions despite being served several notices. A special team carried out the sealing drive, which went unopposed.

GLADA is also preparing to take legal action against the developers. A spokesperson said the organisation had a zero tolerance policy for unauthorised and unplanned development, especially when it came to illegal colonies. A special drive has been launched to take punitive action against those who were fleecing innocent residents by offering them cheaper plots in unauthorised projects, he added.

Kumar appealed to the public to abstain from purchasing property in unauthorised projects since GLADA would not provide facilities such as water, sewerage and electricity to them. The list of approved and regularised colonies, along with their sanctioned maps, is available on GLADA’s official website, which can be accessed by prospective buyers ahead of purchasing property, he said.
