In bid to save car, private bus overturns; 12 injured

Prompt action by passersby saved lives of about 25 passengers, including women, who were travelling in a private bus that overturned near Lehal village on Karamsar-Malaudh Road here on Monday afternoon.

Though the exact reason behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained, the injured passengers said that the mishap occurred as the bus driver lost control while saving a car driven by a woman.

A private bus number PB 10 CV 6172 going from Karamsar to Malaudh overturned near Lehal village when a Indica car allegedly driven by a woman appeared suddenly from a link road.

Referring to information received from a relative, who was injured in the incident, a resident of Dudhal village informed that the accident had taken place due to irresponsible driving of the driver of a car that was yet to be identified.

It was due to prompt action and rescue operation by passersby that all occupants were rescued from the overturned bus. Though all occupants were injured in the mishap about 12 were reported to be shifted to Civil Hospital, Malaudh, and other healthcare centres.

Dr Sarabjit Kaur, Medical Officer, attending the injured informed that six women were admitted at the Civil Hospital, three of whom, suffering from head injury were referred to Civil Hospital at Ludhiana.

Malaudh SHO Satnam Singh said cops have been deployed to rescue occupants and shift the injured.
