The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is set to roll out the e-office system from February 15, marking a significant shift from manual file handling to a fully digital process.

Officials said the reform would enhance transparency, efficiency and accountability in the municipal operations.

Mayor Inderjit Kaur described the initiative as a turning point for civic governance.

“With the e-office system, every file will have a unique number and move seamlessly from one officer to another. Citizens will be able to check the update on their mobiles and will no longer have to wonder where their file is lying or whether it is gathering dust. The system will ensure speed, transparency and fairness," she said.

When an applicant submits documents in any branch of the corporation, all papers will be scanned and uploaded online. Afterwards, the file will be assigned a unique number, through which the entire process will move forward. Whichever official receives the file, will approve or reject it directly within the system.

The building branch already has a digital process for approving maps, and now, the same arrangement will be implemented across all branches of the corporation.

Residents have also welcomed the move. Rajesh Sharma, a local businessman, said: “Earlier, we had to make repeated visits to the corporation office just to check the status of our applications. Now, being able to track files online will save time and reduce harassment.”

Another citizen, Sunita Verma, said, “It will curb corruption. If everything is digital and traceable, officials will be more accountable. It’s a relief for ordinary people like us.”

The Municipal Corporation believes this reform would transform public service delivery in Ludhiana, making governance more citizen-friendly and efficient, said a councillor.
