Suffering severe losses owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the local industry, including many textile factories, have decided to gradually decrease their dependence on the Red Dragon for their finished goods, technology and raw material.
Ajit Lakra, Head, Textile Division, FICO, said the reports suggested that the virus was allegedly spread by China. “They have destroyed the economy of the world for their selfish motives. We are dependent on China too much for raw material, finished items, machinery everything. Time has come and this dependence now has to be decreased if we wanted to stabilise our own economy. We, the local associations, have decided to boycott Chinese products,” said Lakra.
At the same time, the industrialists have demanded that government support is must in this. Sanju Dhir, Chairman Ludhiana Woollen Manufacturing Association, here said the government needed to provide assistance to the Indian entrepreneurs to create suitable substitutes of all imports from Chinese.
Industrialists, including Tarun Jain Bawa, Darshan Dawar, Sudershan Jain, said, “If the fabric and made-ups are banned from China, the Ludhiana Textile Industry could be developed within three years.”
