Ludhiana, June 16
Trainees of the Jarkhar Boxing Academy gave a stupendous performance by winning four medals in different weight groups, including three gold medals, in the Khelo India Youth Games held in Haryana. The achievement holds significance as the academy was started just six months ago and trainees excelled in the maiden competition, that too of a national level in which over 200 boxers from all over the country took part.
Trainees namely Anjali Gupta clinched gold medal in the below 45kg weight category and Sukhjinder Singh Jarkhar came out triumphant in the below 53kg weight group while Harjot Singh Jarkhar won gold medal in the below 46kg weight section. In the below 49kg weight group, Tanveer Singh Jarkhar secured bronze medal to bring fame to their training centre and the state.
The position holders were honoured at a function held at Jarkhar stadium on Wednesday. They were given almonds and ghee by Jagroop Singh Jarkhar, chief organiser to acknowledge their feat.
Jiwan Singh Sangowal, MLA from Gill constituency, Ashok Prashar Pappi, MLA from Ludhiana Central and chairman of the academy besides Narinder Pal Singh Sidhu, chairman of Mata Sahib Kaur Sports Charitable Trust, Jarkhar, Jagdeep Singh Ghuman, Director, 5Aab Foundation, principal Balwant Singh Chakar and Sarwan Singh Ghuman appreciated the players’ achievement and wished them more success in future competitions.
