Junior teams of Jarkhar, Chachrari advance in hockey championship

Guru Teg Bahadur Academy from Chachrari, Jagraon, and Jarkhar Hockey Academy registered victories in junior category matches of the 16th JST Truck Permit-Olympian Prithipal Singh Hockey Festival.

The tournament is being organised by Mata Sahib Kaur Sports Charitable Trust, Jarkhar. Chachrari boys defeated Ghawaddi Centre 6-2 to enter the semi-finals while Jarkhar Academy overpowered HTC Rampur Hockey Centre 5-3 to record their first win of the tournament.

In the senior category, Gill Club, Ghawaddi, outclassed Jarkhar Hockey Academy 9-4 and stormed into the last four. In another hard-fought encounter, Neeta Club Rampur defeated Sant Baba Gulab Singh Club Gholia Khurd, Moga, 4-2 to secure their berth in the next round.

The organisers commemorated 43rd death anniversary of legendary hockey icon Prithipal Singh with respect.

Paying floral tributes at the life-size statue of the Olympian, MLA Jeevan Singh Sangowal hailed Prithipal Singh’s contribution to Indian hockey and described him as a “timeless inspiration for young sportspersons”.

MLA Sangowal declared the road leading to Jarkhar Stadium would soon be reconstructed, reaffirming the government’s commitment towards strengthening rural sports infrastructure in the state.
