Karamjeet Kaur, Raj Yadav named best athletes during annual sports meet at Doraha college

Karamjeet Kaur, a student of BA final year, and Raj Yadav, a student of BCom second year, were adjudged the best athletes among girls and boys, respectively, during the 49th annual athletics meet of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, on Thursday.

The competitions reflected the athletes’ enthusiasm, teamwork and competitive spirit throughout the meet.

Sucha Singh, an Arjuna awardee and an Asian Games gold medallist, as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the meet, exhorted students to take part in sports, saying India needed healthy and energetic youth in order to march ahead. Sports taught the essential values of obedience, discipline and team spirit, he added.

Earlier, Principal Sarvjeet Brar welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. Guru Nanak Managing Board president Harpartap Brar extended the vote of thanks.

Dr Nirlep Kaur, organising secretary, and Karamjit Singh Benipal, manager, were among the attendees of the event.

In the shot-put event, Mankaran secured the first place, followed by Akashdeep and Gurkirat in the second and third places, respectively. Gurtej clinched the gold in discus throw, with Udit Rekhi and Mankaran finishing second and third, respectively.

Partapjot won the 1,500-m race, with Raj Yadav securing the second place and Mankaran finishing third. In the javelin throw event, Shubham Pal claimed the top spot, followed by Karamjeet and Mankaran.

In the fun-filled three-legged race, Shubham Pal and Udit Rekhi emerged winners, while Daksh Bhatia and Jagdeep secured the second position, and Tanish and Hardik Kharbanda finished third.
