Khanna cops restart village visits to rope in people for fight against drugs
As part of 'Personal Contact Programme' for rural areas in Khanna
The Khanna police have restarted their visits to villages under their jurisdiction to rope in people for the authorities’ fight against the drug menace, said officials.
They said the police, led by Darpan Ahluwalia, Senior Superintendent of Police, Khanna, have re-launched their “Personal Contact Programme” for rural areas.
After restarting the initiative, police conducted a visit to Kauri village and held a meeting with office-bearers and activists of various organizations. The people vowed not to vouch for suspects booked on drug trafficking charges or their sympathisers, the officials added.
Appreciating the initiative, residents assured the police of their support.
Jagdeep Kaur, sarpanch, was also among the attendees.
“Interaction between senior functionaries of the administration and villagers will go a long way in boosting the morale of those involved in the fight against drugs,” said Kaur.
Interacting with the villagers, the SSP said the goal to eradicate drugs could only be achieved with active participation of locals as they know more than police personnel. She said a lot of police personnel posted here are from other regions, and hence, could not match the knowledge the locals have.
SSP Ahluwalia advised all circle officers, Station-House Officers (SHO) and beat officers to revamp the police-public coordination in war against drugs by organising frequent personal contact events under the banner of Sampark Programme of the Yudh Nashian Virudh.
Police personnel were ordered not to disclose the identities of the people who provide them information about those involved in drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
