The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) campus was abuzz with farmers and farm women on the second day of Kisan Mela on Friday.

The PAU and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) launched healthy fruit and milk products at the Kisan Mela and Pashu Palan Mela, respectively.

On the one hand, the Department of Food Science and Technology of PAU displayed natural jamun drink, bel drink, natural fizzy lemon drink and spicy milk. On the other hand, GADVASU launched Vitamin A enriched flavoured lassi.

Jamun and bel are rich in Vitamin A, B, C, B-6, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium and iron. Both fruit juices are anti-oxidants and good for diabetic and heart patients.

“People are showing a lot of interest in jamun and bel juice. They have proved very beneficial for diabetic people as it helps in controlling sugar levels,” said a student.

Meanwhile, the GADVASU has launched Vitamin A enriched lassi which is available in two flavours, including mango and beetroot. Vitamin A plays important role in development and maintenance of immune system

“Amongst three major micronutrient deficiencies, Vitamin A’s dearth is the leading one. Therefore, it becomes essential that we choose our meals carefully. Keeping all these in mind, the College of Dairy Science and Technology, has developed Vitamin A enriched lassi using natural sources. The beauty of this product lies in being natural yet easily digestible and thirst quenching.
