Trainees of the Ludhiana Basketball Academy (LBA) today proved their supremacy and made it to the semifinal league in the boys as well as girls sections of the 70th Junior Punjab Basketball Championship being held at Guru Nanak Stadium.
In the boys’ section, Ludhiana, along with Mohali and Patiala districts, also qualified for the semifinal league whereas in the girls’ category, besides LBA, Amritsar, Mohali and Sangrur entered the league.
Today, in an exciting match in the boys’ section, Ludhiana district quelled a strong challenge from Mohali before wrapping up the issue 70-62.
At the end of second quarter, Mohali were leading 19-17 but in the third quarter, Ludhiana lads bounced back into the game.
They not only wiped out the deficit but surged ahead and managed to keep up the momentum till the long whistle and record a narrow win.
For the winners, Nawz Singh and Karandeep Singh accounted for 16 points each while Jeevan dropped in 15 baskets for the losing side.
In other qualifying matches in the boys’ section, Patiala district defeated Bathinda 82-64 while Mohali edged out Hoshiarpur 51-34 and Patiala beat Amritsar 55-18.
In the girl’s section, Ludhiana Basketball Academy outplayed Bathinda 46-18 and Sangrur outclassed Jalandhar 54-35 while Mohali overcame stiff resistance from Mansa before coming out victorious 74-71.
