Ludhiana, February 22
A liquor smuggler gave the police a slip at Cheema Chowk on Wednesday after the former pushed the cops accompanying him.
Head Constable Vinod Kumar, deployed with the Excise Department said on February 19, the police nabbed Karamjit with 91 cases of illegal liquor and his aide Shamsher with 760 cases of illegal liquor near Apollo Hospital.
“On February 20, constable Ashok Kumar and Mohd Rashid were heading to police station division 6 after getting a medical of the accused conducted. When we reached Cheema Chowk at around 8 pm, my car developed technical snag. I came out of the car and opened the bonnet to fix the issue. Karamjit, who was sitting on the rear seat with constable Ashok, pushed him aside and fled with handcuffs,” he said.
As there was heavy rush at Cheema Chowk, he managed to escape , said the cop. A case under Section 224 of the IPChas been registered against the accused. TNS
