Lok Adalat passes awards worth Rs 94 cr

Ludhiana, September 14

A total of 10,094 cases were listed at the National Lok Adalat, of which 3,614 cases were disposed of on the spot and awards amounting to Rs 94.79 crore were passed. Justice Rakesh Jain of the Punjab and Haryana High Court-cum-Executive Chairman of State Legal Services Authority presided over the National Lok Adalat held at the local courts.

Justice Jain, along with District and Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh, Member Secretary of State Legal Services Authority Rupinder Kaur Chahal, Additional Member Secretary Mandeep Mittal, CJM-cum-Secretary of DLSA Ashish Abrol and Civil Judge Senior Division Vikrant Kumar, inspected the working of the Benches.

He said if the matter is settled at a Lok Adalat, then the court fee already paid by a party at the time of filing of the case is refunded.

The disputes are resolved on the basis of mutually acceptable terms. A decision which is mutually acceptable to both parties not only brings an end to the long-standing dispute but also puts an end to litigation forever, as there is no appeal against the decision/award made by a Lok Adalat, he added. — OC
