The rates of domestic cooking gas cylinders (LPG) have been increased by Rs 60, putting a dent in the budget of home-makers, households and small businesses. Feeling the pinch of inflation, domestic helper Priya said it had become impossible to earn a livelihood. “Our employers are not going to increase our salaries to keep up with inflation, which keeps on increasing,” she said.
The price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder has risen from Rs 853 to 913. The revised prices came into effect from March 7. Additionally, the price of the commercial (19 kg) LPG cylinder have also increased by Rs 115.
Gas dealers noted that the rates may have been increased by the government in anticipation of supply disruptions owing to escalating tensions in the Middle East.
