Ludhiana: The city police on Wednesday claimed to have nabbed three thieves, including two minor boys, and recovered 10 stolen mobile phones, a laptop and a motorcycle from them. The accused have been identified as Gaurav Gill (22) of Bajwa Nagar, a 15-year-old boy of Ghati Mohalla and a 16-year-old boy from New Madhopuri. ADCP-1 Rupinder Kaur Sran in a statement issued said the accused had formed a gang of thieves. They had recently stolen a motorcycle from the city. They had also stolen mobile phones from various localities. The ADCP said the accused had also reportedly looted some mobile phones and questioning in this regard was already on. A case under various sections of the IPC has been registered against the accused. TNS

2 held with poppy husk, intoxicants

Mandi Ahmedgarh: The Dehlon police claimed to have arrested two persons and seized poppy husk, habit-forming tablets from their possession in separate incidents. The accused were identified as Daljit Singh of Ghawadi and Mushtaq Mohammad of Butahri village in Ludhiana district. Assistant Commissioner of Police Vaibhav Sehgal said police personnel, led by SHO Paramdeep Singh, had apprehended the accused when they were going to distribute drugs and narcotics among their clients in the region. While 22 kg of poppy husk was seized from Daljit Singh, 230 habit-forming tablets were seized from Mushtaq Mohammad of Butahri village. oc

PAU students clean vehicles to protest

Ludhiana: Students on Wednesday cleaned cars and buses outside gate No. 1 of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Students have been staging protests for the past eight days demanding filling of posts in the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments at the earliest. Today, they also raised slogans against the government for not fulfilling their demand. Students said that they would continue their protest till the government released notification to fill vacant posts. TNS

MLA takes up issues with minister

Ludhiana: MLA Gurpreet Gogi raised various issues related to the Ludhiana West constituency before Local Bodies Minister Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar. The minister visited MLA Gogi’s residence on Wednesday. On the occasion, Gogi discussed projects, including beautification of Ghumar Mandi Road, repair of various ports infrastructure, installation of garbage compactors and the matter of Ludhiana Improvement Trust’s commercial building on Rani Jhansi Road that was in shambles. Smart Road project on Malhar Road was also discussed during the meeting. TNS

Vaccination camp held at college

Ludhiana: The NSS unit of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management organised a camp to administer vaccine against Covid on Wednesday. College Principal Prof Vishal Kumar said on the spot registrations were done for vaccinating beneficiaries. People were administered their due dose, he said. Students, teachers and members of the sub staff got themselves vaccinated, he added. Residents from Jhande village were also vaccinated at the camp held on the college campus, he said.
