Ludhiana athlete wins bronze at competition in Gurugram

Tegbir Singh Hara from the city secured third position at the prestigious ‘Yoddha - Fittest of India’ competition, held at Haryana’s Gurugram on February 28.

Tegbir was awarded Rs 2 lakh, a trophy and certificate. Tadakhe Sikandar, a commando from Mumbai, clinched first position and cash prize of Rs 10 lakh. Arun Kadian from Haryana stood second and received Rs 5 lakh.

The national-level competition drew participation from hundreds of elite fitness enthusiasts from across the country. A total of 100 of participants were shortlisted for the semifinals and only 25 advanced to the finals.

The event was designed to test physical endurance as well as mental resilience and included a five-km run and seven workout zones, such as wall balls and obstacles.

Adding to the challenge, a two-km sprint had to be completed after each event in the workout zones. The competition featured athletes of the highest calibre, including participants associated with the Olympics, Asian Games and National Security Guard (NSG).

Tegbir, a former junior national tennis finalist in Canada, urged Punjab youth to stay away from drug abuse, and focus on sports and fitness. He emphasised the need to change the negativity often associated with the state and encouraged youngsters to pursue healthy lifestyles.
