Ludhiana beat Jalandhar on basis of first innings lead

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana emerged winners against Jalandhar on the basis of first innings lead of 27 runs in the two-day match in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield that concluded at Burlton Park, Jalandhar, today.

Ludhiana emerged winners against Jalandhar on the basis of first innings lead of 27 runs in the two-day match in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield that concluded at Burlton Park, Jalandhar, today.

Ludhiana skipper Baltej Singh won the toss and opted to bat first. They could not survive their first innings full quota of 95 overs as their innings folded at 330 runs on the second last ball of the last over.

The highlight of Ludhiana’s first essay was a hundred by Kashish Panseja. He contributed 126 runs, which came off 222 balls with the help of 14 hits over the ropes.

Other notable scorers were Deepin Chitkara and Talwinder Singh, who chipped in with 61 and 35 runs, respectively.

For the hosts, Raghu Sharma was the most successful bowler, who scalped four victims while Keshav Sharma and Prerit Dutta captured three wickets each.

Jalandhar began their reply on a sedate note, losing three wickets with 60 runs on the board after 16.5 overs. Then skipper Abhishek Gupta and Mandeep Singh rose to the occasion to take the total to 152 runs before the latter losing his wicket after making 50 runs.

Himanshu Satyawan joined his captain and the duo shared partnership of 64 runs before Abhishek left on his individual score of 107 runs that included 11 boundaries and three sixes. Himanshu chipped in with 43 runs.

The remaining batsmen could not resist for long as Jalandhar’s inning culminated at 303 runs in 69.2 overs, conceding lead of 27 runs.

For Ludhiana, Krishan Singh was the pick of bowlers who grabbed six wickets to contain Jalandhar’s innings.

On the basis of the first innings lead, Ludhiana secured three points while Jalandhar had to content with one point.

Jalandhar (first innings): 303 all out in 69.2 overs (Abhishek Gupta 107, Mandeep Singh 50, Himanshu Satyawan 43, Keshav Sharma 27, Gourav Choudhary 22 and Arun Kalia 15; Krishan Singh 6 for 120, Baltej Singh 2 for 19 and Sukhjinder Singh 2 for 63).
