Ludhiana district Covid tally swells, 17 more test positive

There is no let-up in Covid-19 cases in the district. Seventeen more persons tested positive today.

Two patients, a 35-year-old man and a one-year-old baby girl, are from Omaxe Royal Residency. They are members of a Covid-positive woman’s family.

A 42-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter from Chowni Mohalla also tested positive. They are contacts of a patient who died of Covid.

Two men, who arrived here from Kuwait, also tested positive. A 32-year-old man from Islam Ganj, who is the driver of a positive patient with a travel history of Rajasthan, also tested positive.

A 48-year-old resident of Vishwkarma Colony, Tajpur, who is a contact of a Covid patient, was also found infected.

The other patients include a man, a woman doctor from Khanna, along with their two maids. They contracted infection from a doctor who tested positive after treating a patient at Oswal Hospital.

A 47-year-old man from Khanna and a 29-year-old woman from Bijlipur, who are contacts of the doctor couple, also tested positive.

An undertrial lodged at Borstal Jail, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar and a 40-year-old man from Vivek Dham, Noorwala Road, also tested positive.

As many as 264 people were asked to home-quarantine.

SMOs told to take Aadhaar cards of patients sent to quarantine

Meanwhile, after three positive persons went untraceable, the Health Department has now decided to take Aadhaar cards of those sent to quarantine and to immediately give a missed call on the numbers provided by them to cross-check their authenticity. It was decided during a meeting of all Senior Medical Officers convened by the Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga.

In May, two persons, whose samples were taken at the flu corner of Civil Hospital, tested positive. But they could not be contacted as the mobile numbers provided by them were incorrect and the addresses incomplete. One had given the address of Prem Vihar and the other that of Shibagh. Three patients from other districts were also untraceable. Even the police were unable to locate them.

Dr Bagga said COVA app was being downloaded on every person’s mobile sent to quarantine. “Bluetooth on the mobile phone of a person under quarantine should be switched on which helps in tracking these patients. Sector officers have been appointed who are regularly monitoring these patients. In addition to this, any person, who has this app, can know about the status of his/her city and also how much he/she is near a Covid-positive person,” said Dr Bagga.
