Ludhiana district to get industrial safety committee
Decision taken during industrial safety review meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain
The local administration on Friday decided to constitute a District Industrial Safety Committee to frame comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs), said officials.
They said the SOPs will include mapping of nearby health facilities, availability of fire services, identification of potential hazardous gases released by industries and designation of nodal officers to ensure effective coordination and swift emergency response.
The decision was taken during an industrial safety review meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain. The meeting was aimed at strengthening safety preparedness, preventing industrial accidents and enhancing emergency response mechanisms.
During the meeting, it was decided to undertake district-level hazard mapping to identify vulnerable industrial zones and risk-prone areas.
The wok will be done in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to strengthen disaster preparedness and response planning in the district.
GPS must in machines
used for excavation
The officials said owners of all Poclain and JCB machines used for excavation have been directed to ensure the machines are equipped with geo-positioning system (GPS) to enable real-time monitoring. They said this will enhance safety during excavations. The GPS devices will be installed for free by Think Gas. The owners can reach out to contact person Gaurav Sabharwal at +91 8650722714.
According to the officials, all departments and agencies undertaking digging or excavation work were directed to obtain prior permission from GAIL (India) Limited and Think Gas. These agencies have extensive gas pipeline infrastructure across the district and the directive was issued to prevent damage to the underground pipelines and avert potential accidents.
During the meeting, all industries were directed to organise awareness-cum-mock drill exercises within their premises over the month. These drills will assess on-ground preparedness, emergency response capabilities and compliance with safety norms. Industries were instructed to inform the Deputy Director of Factories (DDF) concerned regarding these drills.
Industrial safety vehicle
The officials said GAIL has deployed a dedicated industrial safety vehicle for immediate response in case of any gas-related or industrial accident. In emergencies, the public and departments concerned may contact the GAIL toll-free emergency number, 15101, for assistance.
The DC emphasised that industrial safety is a shared responsibility and directed all departments concerned and industries to ensure strict compliance with these decisions. He said regular monitoring and follow-up will be done to ensure effective implementation of these measures.
