Hosts Ludhiana proved their class, clinching titles in the girls as well as the boys section in the 7th Sub-Junior Punjab State Baseball Tournament that concluded at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, today.
In the girl’s final, Ludhiana scored an emphatic 8-1 victory over Sangrur to lift the title. Sandeep Pal Kaur and Amanjot Kaur were the main architects of their win. The duo chipped in with two runs each to fashion their team’s victory.
In the match for hard-line cup, Amritsar outperformed Moga 9-2 to secure third position with Komal and Aarti playing the pivotal role, contributing two runs each.
However, the final in the boy’s section played between Ludhiana and Ferozepur turned out to be a battle of nerves in which the former managed the scramble past by a narrow margin (1-0) to lay their hands on the winners’ trophy. In the match to decide the third spot, Sangrur survived a scare against Jalandhar before coming out triumphant 1-0. The all-important run was scored by Simran.
