Ludhiana wing recorded easy victories today to make it to the semifinals in the girls’ section in basketball in the 65th Punjab Inter-District School Games (U-19) being held here.
Competition in the boys’ and girls’ sections in two disciplines — basketball and kho-kho — is being organised by the Punjab Education Department at Guru Nanak Stadium, Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, Jawahar Nagar, and Malwa Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Model Gram.
In basketball (women), Ludhiana wing routed Ropar 35-4 and then got the better of Jalandhar 55-53 while Jalandhar beat Bathinda 28-3; Amritsar wing overwhelmed Fatehgarh Sahib 34-2; Ludhiana district defeated Ferozepur 44-4; Moahli drubbed Sangrur 24-4; Patiala beat Mansa 59-50; Amritsar wing trounced Kapurthala 45-11 and Ludhiana district outclassed Mohali wing 42-25.
In kho-kho, Ludhiana and Ferozepur won their respective quarterfinal matches to enter the last four stage.
Ludhiana thrashed Fazilka 6-1 while Ferozepur beat Sangrur 9-6 to secure berths in the semifinals.
Rupinder Singh Ravi, state organiser, Punjab School Games, was the chief guest of the day.
District Education Officer Sawarnjit Kaur, assistant education officer Ajit Pal Singh, principal Gurjant Singh and headmaster Bikram Bhanot among others were present there.
