The deceased was identified as Shishpal Singh (42), a resident of Rajguru Nagar, Ludhiana. The accused attempted to portray the incident as a road accident, but a swift police investigation proved it to be a murder.
A case has been registered against five people and the main accused, Jaspal Singh, alias Pala Singh (40), has been arrested.
Shishpal’s brother, Vinod Singh (50), filed a report at the police station, naming Ratan Singh, Lakhbir Singh, their father Mauj Singh and Veer Singh, in addition to Jaspal Singh.
Shishpal had reportedly left his wife a long time ago.
Meanwhile, Jaspal Singh's wife had allegedly developed an affair with Shishpal for the past few months. According to the police, Shishpal was returning from a nearby village on Sunday afternoon, when the accused intercepted him.
Jaspal and his group attacked him with sticks and iron rods and later allegedly crushed him under a tractor tyre. Police arrived at the scene after receiving information and tried to pull him out but he already died.
Police sources stated that the accused had attempted to project the incident as an accident by portraying it as a collision between a tractor and a motorcycle.
However, the injuries on Shishpal’s body and other evidence immediately made it clear that it was a case of murder. The primary motive for the murder was Shishpal Singh's desire to maintain affairs with Jaspal Singh's wife.
His body was handed over to his family after the post-mortem. The search for the remaining four named accused and investigation is ongoing.
