Ludhiana police have registered a case
The police have registered a case after a dispute, reportedly triggered by a minor road accident, took a violent turn and a father-son duo was assaulted in Mohalla Preet Nagar Sewakpura, said officials.
Police said the dispute started after a scooter crashed into the victims’ car as one of them was taking it out of their house. Soon after, the scooter-borne men turned up with their associates and assaulted the victims with the butt of a pistol.
The incident happened on Thursday and was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the area.
The police nominated Sahil Kapoor, Udit Kapoor, Sunil Kapoor, Kamal and eight unidentified individuals in the first-information report (FIR).
In the footage from CCTV cameras, the accused are seen gathered outside the house, with one of them holding a pistol. The accused are also seen forcibly entering the victim’s house.
Police said they are using the footage to identify all the accused.
The victim, Simranjot Singh, said in his complaint to the police that the incident occurred around 11.15 am on February 26.
He said he was driving his i20 car out of his house when Sahil and Udit Kapoor crashed their scooter into the vehicle and started fighting.
“About 15 to 20 minutes later, they returned in an Endeavour car with five or six companions,” the complainant said.
He alleged the accused brutally thrashed his father and him.
According to the complaint, Simranjot’s nose was bruised and bleeding after being struck with the butt of a pistol and accused Sunil Kapoor pulled his father’s beard and punched him, breaking his lower tooth. During the altercation, the victim’s gold chain, weighing 20 grams, went missing, the complainant said.
Satwinder Singh Virk, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said that the case was registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He said accused Kamal had a weapon and police will take action according to the law.
