Ludhiana, July 10

Employees of the Municipal Corporation (MC) associated with the Municipal Employees Sangarsh Committee staged gate rally at the civic body’s Zone D office on Wednesday. They demanded that the authorities should redress problems faced by them at the earliest.

Ignore habitual complainants

  • Committee members demanded that the MC Commissioner should not take any action on complaints filed by habitual complainants. However, employees did not mention the name of any complainant in the memorandum. They claimed that habitual complainants used to threaten employees to get their personal works done.

Committee’s chairman Ashwani Sahota and president Jasdev Singh Sekhon along with other members demanded that the MC should deposit general provident fund of employees into their accounts on time. Committee’s general secretary Rajeev Bhardwaj said provident fund of employees was not deposited on time. Some employees said the civic body did not deposit their provident fund of past several months.

Committee members also demanded that retired employees and drivers of the MC should not be recruited on contractual basis. Retired employees, who were recruited on contractual basis, should be expelled, they added.

The protesters also demanded regularisation of jobs of contractual sanitation workers, drivers and other employees. They said sanitation workers should be given designation of ‘safai sainiks’.
