Ludhiana, June 25

Finally, the Municipal Corporation has started online registration of pet dogs and cats in the city. The owners can visit the official website of the MC, mcludhiana.gov.in or pets.mcludhiana.gov.in to register their pets.

The registration process was inaugurated by Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal today. A pet dog of Zonal Commissioner Swati Tiwana was registered online at the time of inauguration. A token was handed to Swati by councillor Mamta Ashu.

What a pet owner needs to do

“This is the first such registration of dogs and cats as pets in Punjab. The pet owners can visit the website for more details. A pet owner needs to submit a copy of his Aadhaar card, self-photo, pet’s photo and Rs 400 as annual fee,” said senior veterinary officer Harbans Singh Dhalla said.

“Once the receipt process is completed, a receipt with token number will be generated online immediately. The pet owner will have to bring a picture or a print of the receipt to the Veterinary- Health Branch (room number 37) on the first floor of the Zone A office near Mata Rani Chowk. After showing the computer-generated receipt, the pet owner can collect a brass token from the office. The last date to apply for registration of pets is December 31,” said Dr Dhalla.

MC to issue licence

The residents who already have pets as well as well as those planning to own one in the city now need to get a licence from the Municipal Corporation. Dr YP Singh and Dr Harbans Singh Dhalla have appealed to the dog and cat owners to come forward for registration of their pets.

A declaration

While submitting an application, the applicant will have to make a declaration that he/she shall not let loose his/her dog or cat in any public street or public place and always take out the dog/cat secured with a leash/chain/muzzle. The owner shall be responsible for all actions of his dog/cat, including causing nuisance or harm to any person. The owner shall not allow his/her dog or cat to defecate in any public place and shall be responsible for cleaning the area if it does so. Any pet without a licence and MC-issued token will be taken away by the corporation, while the owner will have to pay a fine of Rs 100 per day till he or she gets the licence. The licence will have to be renewed every year.
