Ludhiana, February 13

Despite facing opposition allegedly by a Congress leader, a team of the MC collected samples of interlocking tiles in the Sewakpura area of ward 49 in Ludhiana city. As several city roads got damaged within a short period after their construction, the MC had formed a team to check the quality of roads.

It was learnt that when the MC team reached the area today, a Congress leader allegedly asked the staff not to collect the samples of interlocking tiles. The Congress leader then allegedly told some local residents not to allow the team to collect the samples. After that, the leader left the area.

These tiles were laid around six months ago and the payment for work is yet to be made to the contractor.

Meanwhile, the MC team told the local residents that they had come to collect some samples of the tiles for checking their quality. The residents then allowed the team to collect samples.

The samples will be sent to a laboratory. The residents apprised the MC officials about broken road gullies and the problem of water-logging in streets during rain. It was learnt that the estimated cost of laying interlocking tiles in the area from where the samples were collected was about Rs 55 lakh.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader denied the allegations and claimed that he did not stop any official from collecting the tile samples. He claimed that he was not present in the area today when the MC team visited there to collect samples.

The matter has been brought to the notice of MC Additional Commissioner Rishipal Singh. Rishipal recently met the officials of GNE College regarding the testing of road samples. He had stated that the payment due to the contractors would be released after testing the quality of the roads.
