The Ludhiana police on Monday returned 174 stolen mobiles phones to their owners, said officials.
They said police had recovered these mobile phones from areas under the jurisdiction of various police stations.
The officials said the police, under directions of Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, organised a programme at the Jamalpur police station to return these mobiles.
According to them, the people were “overjoyed” at getting their mobiles back.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Inderjit Singh Boparai handed over some mobiles during the event.
ACP Singh said that these mobiles were traced using the Centre’s Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The mobiles, which had been blocked after people reported them stolen, were traced using technical analysis, the officials said.
They said verification of ownership and all legal formalities were completed before handing over the mobiles. The residents expressed their gratitude to the local police and IT cell. They said the phones contained important data and memories, and they were deeply relieved to have them back.
