Ludhiana, July 6

Infuriated over ‘no water supply and unscheduled power cuts’, residents of Ambedkar Nagar and nearby areas of Giaspura staged a protest outside the office of the Ward 29 councillor. They alleged that they were not getting water supply. Elected representatives had failed to get issues resolved.

They also complained about unscheduled power cuts in the area.

Whenever any power cut is imposed, there is no facility of power backup to run water tube wells. Hence, they did not get water supply in such conditions. They demand from the authorities concerned to ensure proper water and power supply to their area.

Nirmal Singh, a relative of councillor Prabhjot Kaur, looks after MC-related works in the ward. He said water tube wells in the ward were 15-20 years old while new tube wells were not being installed by the MC, Ludhiana, despite repeated demands. There is a big problem of low water pressure in various areas and the civic body needs to get the same resolved.

He said now, water supply woes of residents had been increased due to power cuts.

MC’s Superintending Engineer Ravinder Garg said due to unscheduled power cuts, there was a water supply problem. “We had earlier raised the matter with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited to share information about power cuts but to no avail,” he said.

‘Ensure electricity backup to run tube wells’

Residents said whenever any power cut is imposed, there is no facility of power backup to run water tube wells. Hence, they did not get water supply in such conditions. They demand from the authorities concerned to ensure proper water and power supply to their area.
