Ludhiana: Vaani, Kirandeep hog limelight at GCG athletics meet

Vaani Puri and Kirandeep Bawa, both students of BA III, were adjudged the best player and the best athlete, respectively, during the 83rd annual sports meet of Government College for Girls (GCG).

The two-day event concluded on Saturday.

Mamta Kochhar, principal, Government College, Raikot; and Sumeet Brar, director, Government Science and Research College, Jagraon, were the chief guests for the concluding function.

Principal Sumat Lata and faculty members welcomed the guests. Nivedita Sharma, head, Physical Education Department, highlighted the achievements of college players at the state, national and international-levels, and in zonal and inter-university level competitions.

Kochhar and Brar emphasised the importance of sports in life and said it help individuals understand the real value of hard work and success. They encouraged the students to remain grateful to God and perform their duties with responsibility and dedication.

In 1,500m race, Ravina’s resilience proved unparalleled as she finished first, followed by Harpreet Kaur at second and Kevaljeet Kaur at third.

In 200m race, Prabhjot Kaur was the first to cross the finish line, followed by Harpreet Kaur and Jasmeen Kaur.

In 100m race, Harpreet Kaur, Priyanka and Mannat Sharma bagged first, second and third positions, respectively.

In 400m race, Kirandeep Bawa finished first, Dhriti Jain stood second and Amandeep Kaur bagged the third position.

Kirandeep Kaur again stood atop the podium in the 800m race, alongside Rashdeep Kaur on second position and Kiranpreet Kaur at third.

In hurdles race, Manya was on top the rankings, Arzoo was second and Harpreet Kaur bagged the third position.
