To mark World Veterinary Day, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will offer free anti-rabies vaccinations and deworming for pets and stray animals on April 25 from 9:30 am onwards at the multi-speciality veterinary hospital of the university. The one-day drive aims to strengthen public health and animal welfare by increasing vaccine coverage and controlling parasitic infections in pets. Owners of pets are encouraged to bring their animals, along with any existing vaccination records.

Vaccination and deworming play a crucial role in maintaining the health of animals and protecting the wider community. Anti-rabies vaccination helps prevent rabies, a fatal yet preventable disease that can spread from animals to humans through bites or scratches. Regular vaccination strengthens immunity, reduces the risk of disease outbreaks and creates a safer environment for both pets and people.

Deworming is equally essential, as internal parasites can affect an animal’s digestion, growth, energy levels and immune system. Worm infestations may lead to weight loss, poor coat condition, anemia and digestive issues. Routine deworming improves nutrient absorption, supports healthy growth and reduces the risk of parasites spreading to other animals and humans.

The campaign also serves as an awareness initiative to educate pet owners about responsible animal care. Preventive healthcare, including timely vaccination and regular deworming, can significantly improve an animal’s quality of life and reduce long-term medical complications. By participating in this drive, pet owners can take an important step toward ensuring the well-being of their animals while contributing to a healthier and safer community.
