Varinder Khosa, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Dakha, said prime accused Sidhu and Rani operated an immigration centre, Safe Consultants, at Navin Abadi Akalgarh, near Sudhar, and duping people on pretext of sending them abroad using fake documents.

In the first case, Manohar Lal, assistant sub-inspector (ASI), a resident of Bilaspur in Moga district, alleged the accused duped him of Rs 33 lakh on pretext of sending his son to Australia after a “fake marriage”. He said after the accused failed to get his son a visa for Australia, they suggested that he pursues studies in England. “My son is now stranded in the UK, along with the girl, as their visas were cancelled due to non-payment of fee, which was taken by the accused,” alleged the ASI.

The accused also duped Manwinder Singh, a resident of Bagha Purana, of Rs 6.5 lakh on the pretext of sending him to England on a work permit.

In the third case, Charanjit Singh, a resident of Ghunewal village, alleged he was duped of Rs 35 lakh on pretext of a Canada visa.

Khosa said the victims lodged complaints with Ankur Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ludhiana Rural, and the cases were registered after inquiries.
