MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal has given directions to the staff concerned to make required arrangements at night shelters for homeless people in the city. A meeting in this regard was held at the MC’s Zone D office today.
The Municipal Commissioner directed superintending engineers to make full arrangements for lights, drinking water, bedding and blankets in the night shelters. He also directed all chief sanitary inspectors to pay full attention to ensure cleanliness at the shelters in their respective zones.
‘Ensure availability of masks, sanitisers’
The Municipal Commissioner asked the Joint Commissioner concerned to ensure availability of masks, hand sanitisers and thermal scanners at the shelters. In addition, all zonal commissioners and superintending engineers were directed to check the shelters in their respective areas.
During the meeting, superintending engineers Rahul Gagneja and Teerath Bansal informed the Commissioner that cleanliness had been ensured while beddings and washrooms were ready at the night shelters. There are four night shelters in city, as per information provided by the MC officials.
He asked the Joint Commissioner concerned to ensure availability of masks, hand sanitisers and thermal scanners at the shelters. In addition, all zonal commissioners and superintending engineers were directed to check the shelters in their respective areas.
The Commissioner directed the general manager of the city bus service to make arrangements of four buses to bring homeless persons from different parts of the city to the shelters.
He said a team would be deployed for medical check-up of homeless persons visiting the shelters.
Sabharwal directed the officials present in the meeting to contact city-based NGOs and gurdwaras to make arrangements of ‘langar’ as per requirement for persons staying at the night shelters.
