IG Rathore appreciated said the crackdown yielded desired results due to cooperation from the general public.

“However, there are still a substantial number of influential persons who tried to shield the peddlers and helped them evade police action,” said Rathore, maintaining that Station-House Officers (SHOs) SHOs and beat officers had started preparing lists of alleged sympathisers of drug peddlers.

Rathore called upon social organisers to join the campaign against drugs.

SSP Singh said some suspicious persons with criminal records were rounded up to for questioning about sympathisers of criminals so that action can be taken against them.

“We are working on the three ‘I’ formula to deal with criminal sympathisers. Officers have been asked to first ‘Identify’, then ‘Induce’ them to join the fight against drugs and finally ‘Isolate’ them from the society if they don’t stop shielding criminals,” said the SSP.

The SSP reiterated that the Malerkotla police was committed to the fight against crime with an intent to provide the residents with a safe, secure and fear-free environment.
