Malwa Queens began their campaign in style as they crushed Puadh Queens 41-21 on Saturday in the first match of the women’s category of the inaugural edition of the Akaal Jugat Bholath Basketball League.
The first match of the league, being organised by the Punjab Basketball Association (PBA), was played at the Guru Nanak Stadium here. The league is aimed at promoting the sport at the grassroots and providing a competitive platform to emerging players.
Players of Malwa Queens proved too good for their opponents as they secured an early lead and hung onto it till the final whistle. Komalpreet Cheema from the winning team was declared player of the match. She pocketed Rs 10,000.
Earlier, Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta inaugurated the league. Mohit Nigam, Additional Director, Investigation, Income Tax, was guest of honour at the opening ceremony.
The second match will be played on April 25 at Bhaini Bhaga in Mansa district.
