Man arrested with heroin

Ludhiana: The Division 5 police have arrested a smuggler and recovered 10 gram of heroin from his possession. The suspect, Satish Kumar of Jawahar Nagar, was nabbed during routine patrolling near Lajpat Nagar. The investigation officer, ASI Jaspal Singh, said when Satish was asked to stop for checking, he started to run away. The police, however, caught him after a brief chase. 2 held with 23 cases of liquor

Ludhiana: The Haibowal police have arrested two persons with 23 cases of liquor. The suspects have been identified as Des Raj of Indira Colony, Jassian Road; and Napinder Singh of Bhattian village. The investigating officer, ASI Bhajan Singh, said Napinder ferried a large quantity of liquor in his car that bore a fake number plate. He handed over the liquor to Des Raj who kept it in a vacant plot near his shop. The police raided the spot and recovered the illicit liquor. A case has been registered under the Excise Act. TNS

Youth held with pistol

Khamano: The Kheri Naudh Singh police claimed to have arrested a youth with a county made pistol. The accused has been identified as Gaurav, a resident of Nangaln village, near Khamano. DSP Khamano Dharampal said a police party led by ASI Taranjit Singh received a tip-off about a youth present in Kang Market, Khamano, having an illegal countrymade pistol. After information, the police nabbed him and recovered the pistol from his house. A case under relevant sections has been registered and he will be presented in court for further legal action would be taken in this regard. OC

1-kg opium seized, 7 held

Khanna: The Khanna District police claimed to have arrested seven persons during different incidents and recovered 1-kg opium, 25-kg poppy husk and 130 cases of illicit liquor from them. They also arrested a Proclaimed Offender. SSP Khanna Gursharandeep Singh Grewal said police parties of CIA Khanna along with Khanna police under SP(I) Khanna Jasvir Singh and DSP(I) Khanna Hans Raj, led by CIA in-charge Harvinder Singh arrested three persons namely Satish, Vipan and Dinesh, all residents of Haryana, and recovered 1-kg opium from them. A case under the NDPS Act was registered. In another incident, the CIA police recovered 15-kg poppy husk from a person named Panjab Singh, a resident of Badanpur in Patiala. In another incident, a police party of CIA Khanna recovered 10-kg poppy husk from Venod Kumar of Billa Wali Shapri, Khanna, and registered a case under the NDPS Act. As per the SSP, another police party of CIA Khanna recovered 130 cases of illicit liquor which was meant for sale in Chandigarh only from two persons in different incidents and registered cases in this regard against the accused under Excise Act.
