A man, who had married a girl of Model Colony at Jagirpur village against her parents’ wish, attacked her family with sharp weapons. The Meharban police have registered a case against the girl’s husband and 13 others.

Those booked have been identified as Manpreet Singh, his brother Honey, his father Durga Das, Dugra’s wife, Honey’s wife, Mohit and Pankaj, all residents of Vidya Vihar Colony, and seven unidentified persons.

The complainant, Jaspal Singh, told the police that his daughter Parveen Kaur recently married Manpreet against her parents’ wish. He talked to the village Sarpanch for holding a discussion with the boy’s family. “In the presence of the Sarpanch, it was mutually decided to accept the marriage. But we wanted to solemnise the marriage of our daughter with all rituals and for the purpose, a meeting was scheduled with the boy’s family for July 9.

“On July 8 around 9.30 pm, the girl’s husband and the other suspects entered our house by scaling the boundary wall. They attacked me, my wife Satwinder Kaur and brother Parbhad Singh with sharp weapons. Before we could raise the alarm and call the police, they fled the house, threatening us with dire consequences,” said the complainant.
