Man crushed under speeding truck

LUDHIANA: A man in his fifties was crushed to death under a speeding truck near Samrala Chowk past night.

A man in his fifties was crushed to death under a speeding truck near Samrala Chowk past night. The deceased has been identified as Mehboob (55), a resident of Tibba Road here. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident. The police have registered a case of showing negligence while driving against the truck driver.

In his complaint to the police, the victim’s son, Dilshad, said he and his father worked as vendors. According to Dilshad, the accident took place while he and his father were returning home from work late night. “We were returning home on our bicycles after selling blankets in villages. When we reached near Samrala Chowk, a speeding truck hit my father from behind. He died on the spot,” said Dilshad.

According to Dilshad, the truck driver fled the scene leaving behind his truck after the accident. The complainant informed the police following which a team from the Division Number 7 police station reached the spot and launched investigation.

The investigating officer, constable Karnail Singh, said the police had registered a case under Section 279 and 304-A of the IPC against an unidentified truck driver after recording Dilshad's statement. “The police have impounded the truck. The police have been making efforts to trace the driver who has absconded,” said Karnail Singh.
