A major theft incident happened on Sunday evening at the Sterling Resort on Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana, during the ‘shagun’ (pre-wedding) ceremony of a prominent local jeweller’s daughter. An unidentified individual, disguised as a waiter, managed to steal a bag filled with gold jewelry and cash envelopes before fleeing the spot.

The groom’s family had arrived from Amritsar for the event. The victim, the bride’s father stated that the rituals had just concluded when the incident took place. His father was holding a bag containing over 400 g of gold and several envelopes of ‘shagun’ (cash gifts). For a brief moment, the bag was placed on a chair, within seconds, the suspect seized the opportunity and vanished with the valuables.

Upon realising the bag was missing, the resort manager, Gurvinder Singh, and staff reviewed the security footage. The CCTV recordings show a young man dressed in a waiter’s uniform entering the venue, picking up the bag, and making a swift exit.

The family has raised serious questions regarding the resort’s security protocols. “How was an unidentified person able to enter the resort wearing a waiter’s uniform?” a family member questioned. The family has warned that they would pursue legal action against the resort management if they were not compensated for the significant financial loss.

Following the report, Sadar Police Station SHO Jagdev Singh reached the resort to lead the investigation.
