Ludhiana, December 1
An armed man fired gunshots at a car driver on the Jagraon-Ludhiana highway yesterday. The man in the car, however, had a narrow escape.
The complainant Pargat Singh of Jawanda Kalan told the Sadar Jagraon police that yesterday he started from his village and was heading towards Ludhiana in his Swift Dzire car. After reaching Jagraon and paying obeisance at Nanaksar Gurdwara, he started heading towards Ludhiana.
“The moment I reached near Sidhwan Kalan village, a turbaned man suddenly came in front of my car. To prevent accident, I applied brakes. Before I could understand anything, the masked man started firing at my car. Fortunately, the bullets broke the windowpanes of the car, but I did not suffer any injury. I then fled in the car and informed the police,” Pargat Singh alleged.
Sub-inspector Kamaldeep Kaur, investigation officer in the case, said the motive of the assailant was not clear. Even the complainant admitted that he didn’t know the assailant. “It could be a loot attempt or some old enmity. We are checking the CCTV footage of the area to get clues about the assailant,” added Kaur.
