Ludhiana, July 3

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Ashok Kaporr has convicted Chandershekhar, a resident of Dhhokan mohalla, here, in a rape case.

He was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 10 years. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed upon him.

Delivering the verdict, the court held that the prosecution has successfully proved the charges levelled against the accused beyond any reasonable shadow of doubt. The court also declined the plea of leniency raised by the accused.

A case against the accused was registered on August 1, 2019, at the Police Division No 7 on the statement of the victim girl. She had told the police that the accused used to come to the tea stall of his father where she used to assist the latter in work. The accused started coming to their house and after intoxicating her, he committed the crime. She did not disclose about the incident to anybody due to fear. On another day, the accused forcibly took the victim to Chandigarh and raped her.

However, during the trial, the accused pleaded innocence and claimed false implication. But after appreciating the evidence on record, the court found him guilty and sentenced accordingly. `
