The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Harvinder Singh has sentenced Gurdev Singh, a resident of Bhangia Kalan, to five years’ RI in a mobile snatching case. A fine of Rs 11,000 was also imposed on the accused.

The court held that the prosecution has successfully proved charges against the accused. In view of rising incidents of snatching the accused did not deserve any leniency, observed the court while declining the plea of leniency raised by the accused.

As per the complaint filed by Manpreet Kaur of Jodhan village, she was going from Krishna Nagar towards Aarti Chowk on September 29, 2020, when two youths on a bike snatched her mobile.

In December 2020, the police got information that they were arrested by CIA staff in another case. Later, the woman identified them. During trial, the second accused, Anuj, failed to appear, leading the court to declare him a proclaimed offender.
