Ludhiana: The police have arrested Satpal Singh, a resident of Ghalib Ran Singh Wali in Jagraon, with 44 cases (528 bottles) of smuggled liquor. A case under Sections 61, 78(2), 1 and 14, Excise Act, has been registered against the suspect. The police said on receiving a tip-off, the suspect, who was coming from Doraha side in Innova SUV (bearing registration No. PB-13X-0882), was stopped at a naka near Harnampura Pul along Sidhwan Canal. Search of the vehicle led to recovery of 20 cases of First Choice whisky and 24 cases of country liquor, the police added. OC

Youths snatch mobile phones

Ludhiana: Suresh Kumar, a resident of Basant Vihar on Noorwala Road, has reported to the police that three motorcycle-borne youths snatched two mobile phones — Oppo F-11 and RedmeNote-8 — while he was going from Jalandhar bypass towards Basti Jodhewal Chowk, along with his wife Tannu and her friend Simran, on September 9. The police have registered a case under Section 379-B of the IPC and started investigation. OC
