The police have arrested a man, his brother and sister-in-law for allegedly beating his 26-year-old wife who died in the hospital. They have been identified as Sanket Kumar, his brother Ankit Kumar and sister-in-law Neela, all residents of the Shimlapuri area here. Another relative booked in the same case has been identified as Prem Singh who has absconded.

The police have registered a case against the suspects at the Shimlapuri police station on the basis of a complaint by the victim’s father. In his statement to the police, Balli Singh of Garib village in Jalon district of Uttar Pradesh has stated that he married off his daughter Ritika to Sanket around one year ago. After some time, Sanket and the other members of his family started torturing Ritika.

“In August last year, Sanket, his brother Ankit, sister-in-law Neelam and another relative Prem Singh beat Ritika up and she was severely injured. When I came to know about the incident, I admitted my daughter to the PGI, Chandigarh, where she died while undergoing treatment,” said Balli.

The investigating officer, ASI Sukhwinder Singh, said the police had registered a case under Section 304-B and 120-B of the IPC against Sanket, Ankit, Neelam and Prem Singh. “We have arrested three suspects while Prem Singh has absconded. The police have been searching for him and he will be arrested soon,” said the ASI.
